5K RUN FOR SAFE PASSAGE
Walk or run 5K (or just come to a Fiesta) and change a child’s life! Great Lakes Friends of Safe Passage will host Esperanza 5K and Fiesta 2010 on Sept. 25th at the Grand Traverse Commons. Safe Passage is a non-profit that educates at-risk children of impoverished families working in the Guatemala City garbage dump. The 5K will unite runners and walkers worldwide in bringing hope to families seeking better lives.
Following the 11:00am 5K run/walk and 1-mile walk, the 5th annual Fiesta (12:00 – 2 p.m.) on the Village at GT Commons lawn will feature food and beverages, live music, Guatemalan craft market, video and slides, and much information about Safe Passage programs.

What: PATS Bottle Drive Fundraiser
collecting all donated refundable bottles / cans to help fund teacher / student educational needs / supplies at Bear Lake Schools
Where: Two drop-off locations - Bear Lake Transfer Stations (where they hold garbage collection for Bear Lake and Pleasanton Townships every other Saturday)
1) The Bear Lake township transfer station is located at Deverre Randall and Son's office on 13 Mile Road, just past Saddle Up gas station in Bear Lake
2) The Pleasanton township transfer station is located on the gravel portion of Norconk Road in Bear Lake
When: Saturday, September 11th, 2010, 9 through 11 a.m.
PATS members will gladly accept any donations between now and 9/11/2010

BOARDMAN TRAIL MEETING
The 2.5-mile Boardman Lake Trail, which currently stretches from the north end of Boardman Lake in Traverse City to Medalie Park/Logan’s Landing on the lake’s southeast corner, is looking to continue its reach into the Boardman River valley. A Coastal Zone Management (CZM) Program grant was awarded to the Grand Traverse County Road Commission and Traverse Area Recreation and Transportation (TART) Trails, Inc. to fund a feasibility study to evaluate the possible conceptual design options for a grade separated trail crossing of South Airport Road.
Gosling Czubak, the engineering consultants hired to conduct the feasibility study, have completed the next step in the study and have developed possible crossing alternatives. A second public meeting will be held at the Garfield Township Hall (3848 Veterans Drive) at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 24, 2010. The purpose of the meeting will be to review the consultant’s findings regarding alternatives, alternatives evaluation, and concept drawings.
